Habitat: The herb grows on dry stony limestone terrain. Widespread scattered in South Pirin and Rodopi average in Bulgaria.. Localities are significantly depleted, and therefore is under the protection of the law. It is also found in other parts of the Balkan Peninsula (Albania, Greece, Yugoslavia).It is a plant of high mountains and it is found as native in open rocky places, rock cracks, stabilized screes, forest meadows, and fir-forest openings. The species it is grown at altitudes from 1200 to 2000 m. approximately, on limestones.It is in danger due to over-collection and degradation of its populations.
Description: Perennial herb with creeping rhizome. The aboveground stems four-ascending or erect, to 50 cm high, simple or branched. Leaves opposite, sessile or on short stalks, whole or napileni slightly oblong to broadly heart-shaped, and white woolly stem-fiber. The flowers in whorls in the axils of upper leaves, forming clusters with lemon klasovidni tunicates bracts. Calyx trabesto zvanesta with 5 short teeth. Corolla pale yellow, pipe-like bilabial. Fruit dry, disintegrated into four nuts. It blooms from July to September.A great herb to add to your medicine chest and its pretty in the garden too! Sideritis scardica forms a lovely silver, fuzzy-leaved mat about 9tall and 12wide. The yellow flowers bloom on long stems & are surrounded by attractive green bracts. Blooms throughout Summer. Native to mountainous areas of Bulgaria, Albania & Greece. In Bulgaria it is know as Pirinski tea.
